Make sure that the clinic is accredited. Many pain centers/clinics do not require accreditation or staff certification for their pain management programs. Accreditation helps to ensure you that the program meets the basic requirements for giving you appropriate medical care.

Is the pain management program certified by the American Academy of Pain Management (AAPM)? When a clinic is AAPM certified, that demonstrates that they have been through rigorous peer-reviewed compliance standards established by pain practitioners.

Find out if the physician is certified by a specialty board, such as the American Board of Pain Medicine.

Contact the American Pain Society or the American Academy of Pain Medicine to find an appropriate pain management program in your area.
